Farmhouse Nottinghamshire
Farmhouse Nottinghamshire
In contrast to our projects at Oak House and The Dairy which were both developed as bespoke homes according to specific user requirements, we also renovate and build homes for open market sale.
This charming limestone-built farmhouse, constructed and expanded in phases but with the initial part dating back to the mid-1700s, is located in a wonderful rural setting and was previously occupied by an elderly couple.
Bearing the hallmarks of many such traditional properties, the interior was somewhat dated – yet the fabric of the building required little to no attention at all having been lovingly maintained throughout the previous owners’ tenure.
Interventions
The principal aim of this refurbishment was to thoroughly update the property using contemporary fixtures, fittings and finishes – and thus make it more suitable for the professional family of today. Giving careful consideration (and in some cases priority) to the farmhouse’s history and characterful features, this injection of modern design juxtaposes beautifully with its traditional charm; the result being a distinctive home that remains sufficiently neutral for new owners to ‘make their own’.
One of the key interventions was to replace the leaded window glazing that had characterised its exterior for many years. Incredibly, this granted in the region of 20-25% more light to enter rooms – not to mention affording more splendid rural views – and unquestionably helped to transform its overall presence.
Along with a new kitchen and appliances, rows of LED lighting were added to the impressive farmhouse kitchen/diner to create a home hub of real quality and integrity that features a wood-burning stove fireplace and exposed beams.
Upstairs, the existing en-suite was replaced and a further one added to the second bedroom. However, the real victory with this project was the creation of an all-new master suite complete with stunning bathroom and an area entirely suitable for a walk-in wardrobe from what was formerly a second sitting room and bathroom.
Agent’s summary
A gorgeous farmhouse conversion on a private, gated development; a substantial, warm and cosy family home with room to both grow and relax. Situated amongst mature trees and shrubs alongside a babbling brook, the original farm estate is a delight and has been with the current owners for the last 20 years; indeed, there is history here – many memories have been made and still cherished. This home is now deserving of another wonderful family to make their own mark, create their own memories and enjoy wonderful experiences.
